Life Purpose Journey= Joy + Talent + Value

Determining what our purpose is in life can be one of the hardest questions that we as humans always try to answer. This week’s post is about having a conversation about the fundamental role timing plays in our search for purpose and how that connects to what we do that brings us joy, shows our talent, and adds value to the world.

Timing:Understand Its Importance.

When it comes to finding meaning and purpose for our life in this world, two sets of “timing” play a key role: The time of our “Entrance” into this world and the time of our “Exit.” And between these two timings, we do many things that fall into two critical categories:

Things that are “Important” and those that are “not so important.” The important things add value, meaning, fun, and happiness to us, and to others. By doing those things we contribute to making the world a better place in our own little way. On the other hand, the not-so-important things may tend to take the space of the important things, which we may sometimes see as a way of “burning time.”

So, on a very foundational level, it is good to know that the question: “What should I do with my life?” or “What is my life purpose?” could simply be translated into: “What can I do with my time that is important?”

So, where do we start? Well, we can start with fidnding where these three things intersect:

Enjoyment/joy: Knowing what you really enjoy doing. We all have something we are passionate about. What is that thing for you? Does it spark joy? Are you excited about it? Part of our happiness and purpose comes from being able to fundamentally enjoy how we spend most of our time.

Skill/talent: Sometimes people say they are not good at anything. The truth is this: Everyone is good at something. It takes intentionality to genuinely explore your true talents and interests.

Value/contribution: Does what you do so well and enjoy doing add value to others?

What You Do With Your Time = What You Do With Your Life.

  • Joy: Identify what you enjoy doing. What are you passionate about?
  • Skill/Talent: Identify what you are good at or have particular talent for.
  • Value: Identify what other people value. It may be of vlaue to oters that they might be wailling to pay for it.
